MANILA, Philippines — Forming cooperatives will result in a stable source of income for farmers, said President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Monday.
“Kailangan din natin tiyakin na maganda naman ang hanapbuhay ng ating magsasaka. Na sasabihin natin eh magbebenta tayo ng bigas na napakababa, ‘yung palay bibilhin ng P12, papaano, lugi masyado ‘yung farmer. Kaya ‘yung cooperative ang solusyon diyan,” said Marcos during his National Cooperative Day speech in Malacañan Palace.
(We need to take care of the livelihood of farmers. If we buy rice from them at P12, they will lose a lot. Cooperatives are the solution.)
Marcos said that if farmers organized themselves into cooperatives, they would have guaranteed income.
“We need to consolidate our agricultural operations. There is no other way to do that except by good, strong, well-funded, well-managed cooperatives,” said Marcos.
