MANILA, Philippines — A 5.0-magnitude earthquake struck Calaca town in Batangas province on Friday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivocls) said.
In a bulletin, the agency reported that the temblor hit at 8:24 a.m. as its epicenter was traced 15 kilometers southwest of Calaca.
The quake was of tectonic origin with a 14-kilometer depth of focus.
Phivolcs said that various areas felt the earthquake at:
- Intensity V – Batangas City, City of Calaca, and Lemery, Batangas
- Intensity IV – City of Muntinlupa; Alitagtag, Balayan, Bauan, Calatagan, Lian, Mabini, Mataasnakahoy, San Luis, Santa Teresita, Taal, Tingloy, and Tuy, Batangas; Alfonso, Cavite
- Intensity III – Agoncillo, Balete, Cuenca, Ibaan, Laurel, City of Lipa, Lobo, Malvar, Nasugbu, Padre Garcia, San Jose, San Nicolas, San Pascual, City of Sto. Tomas, Talisay, City of Tanauan, and Taysan, Batangas; Amadeo, City of Dasmariñas, Indang, Magallanes, Mendez-Nuñez, Silang, and City of Tagaytay, Cavite; City of San Pedro, Laguna; Dolores and Tiaong, Quezon
- Intensity II – Quezon City; Pasay City; Pateros; City of Valenzuela; City of Meycauayan and Obando, Bulacan; Rosario, Batangas; City of Bacoor and City of General Trias, Cavite; City of San Pablo, Laguna; Mauban, Quezon
- Intensity I – City of Caloocan; City of Pasig; Naic, Cavite; Cardona and Morong, Rizal; Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro; and San Juan Batangas
And that based on their scale, the temblor registered:
- Instrumental Intensity V – Lemery, Batangas
- Instrumental Intensity IV – City of Muntinlupa; Balayan, Cuenca, San Luis, and Santa Teresita, Batangas; City of Tagaytay, Cavite
- Instrumental Intensity III – Batangas City, Laurel, and City of Lipa, Batangas; Dolores, Quezon
- Instrumental Intensity II – City of Las Piñas; Pasay City; Rosario and Talisay, Batangas; Magallanes, Cavite; Santa Cruz, Laguna; Gumaca, Mauban, and Polillo, Quezon; City of Antipolo and Taytay, Rizal; Boac, Marinduque; Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro
- Instrumental Intensity I – City of Malabon; City of Parañaque; Pateros; City of San Juan; Dinalupihan, Bataan; Guiguinto and City of Malolos, Bulacan; Malvar, Batangas; Ternate, Cavite; City of San Pablo, Laguna; Alabat and Lucban, Quezon; City of Lucena; Tanay, Rizal; Abra De Ilog and Mamburao, Occidental Mindoro
