5 PUV drivers test positive in random LTO drug test

MANILA, Philippines — Five public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers tested positive for illegal drugs during the Land Transportation Office’s (LTO) surprise drug test in Paranaque City.

The five drivers were among the 101 tested in an operation at the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX) on Wednesday, according to LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Vigor Mendoza II.

Meanwhile, 15 PUVs were also impounded during the roadworthiness inspection in the same facility.

 “This should serve as a warning to the drivers and operators of these colorum vehicles to stop their illegal activities,” Mendoza said in Filipino.

“Our roadworthiness inspections will continue since the Undas and barangay elections are approaching, as we expect the influx of our kababayans to return to their respective provinces,” he added.
