Cardiac arrest, not heat stroke
A speed cop who died after working in the field the whole morning had heart ailment.
Supt. Nestor Sator, PNP-Central Visayas medico legal officer said in a text message to CDN that SPO1 Rommel Tibayan died due to acute myocardial infraction, not a heat stroke as earlier suspected.
He said autopsy findings showed that Tibayan died of cardiac arrest due to acute myocardial infraction.
SP01 Rommel Tibayan of the Traffic Group of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) had his helmet on last Friday but the day was particularly hot.
Chief Insp. Aureo Sanchez said Tibayan asked permission to go home around noon because he was feeling indisposed.
He said Tibayan had just finished doing “motorcycle stop operations along V. Sotto and S. Osmeña streets in barangay Tinago from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. yesterday.”
Rona, the victim’s sister, said the police officer complained of difficulty in breathing around 2 p.m. They rushed the police officer from their home in barangay Tungkil, Minglanilla town, to the Minglanilla District Hospital and later transferred him to the South General Hospital, where he died. /chito aragon
