MANILA, Philippines — Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon may expect isolated rain showers caused by localized thunderstorms, the state weather bureau said on Tuesday.

Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) also warned of possible flash floods or landslides due to moderate to, at times, heavy rains in low-lying areas.

According to Pagasa, cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms will continue to prevail over Bicol region and eastern sections of Visayas and Mindanao.

This condition is due to the trough or extension of the low pressure area (LPA) being monitored outside Philippine area of responsibility (PAR.)

“‘Yung LPA naman na mino-monitor natin ay huling namataan sa layong 1,170 kilometers (km.) east of eastern Visayas,” Castañeda said.

(The LPA that we are monitoring was last spotted at a distance of 1,170 km. east of eastern Visayas.)

“At ayon sa ating latest analysis ay nananatiling mababa ang tsansa nito na maging bagyo within the next 48 hours at posible itong pumasok sa PAR within the next 24 to 48 hours,” she added.

“And according to our latest analysis, the chance of it becoming a typhoon within the next 48 hours remains low and it may enter PAR within the next 24 to 48 hours.)

Typhoon Bolaven likewise remains outside of PAR and is currently not affecting the country’s weather.

It was last seen 2,385 km. east of Eastern Visayas.

The state weather agency said its chance of entering PAR is remote.
