MANILA, Philippines —The thin layer of volcanic smog or vog from Taal volcano has cleared up.

These mixture of gases in the atmosphere had prompted class suspension and shift to modular classes in some areas early Monday morning.

“Ngayon po, very clear na ‘yung Taal volcano. Very beautiful na po yung main crater at wala tayong nakikitang vog na namumuo,” Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) Director Teresito Bacolcol reported.

(Now, the Taal Volcano is very clear. The main crater is very beautiful and we don’t see any vog forming.)

He made the announcement in an interview with Teleradyo before noon of the same day.

“In fact, yung plume na nakikita natin, madali siyang ma-disperse kasi mabilis po ‘yung hangin ngayon,” he added.

(In fact, the plume that we see, it had quickly dispersed because the wind is fast now.)

Bacolcol also recalled wind movement was slow on Sunday which might be the reason why the vog got concentrated in areas near the volcano.

Taal volcano remains under alert level 1 based on Phivolcs’ latest bulletin.
