MANILA, Philippines — Vice President Sara Duterte, who is also the concurrent Education secretary, visited the wake of the Grade 5 student who died after being allegedly slapped by his teacher.
Pictures captured by the Rizal Police Provincial Office and shared to the media by the Office of the Vice President showed Duterte at the wake of the victim Francis Jay Gumikib.
“During her visit to the family, Vice President Sara Duterte extended her heartfelt condolences to the mourning family and gave her moral support to cope up with the circumstances they were facing,” said the Rizal Police Provincial Office on their Facebook post.
Duterte was accompanied by Department of Education spokesperson Usec. Michael Poa.
According to official reports, Gumikib was allegedly hurt by his teacher on September 20. After the incident, he fell into a coma and died 11 days later.
An autopsy will determine whether or not cases would be filed against the teacher.
