MANILA, Philippines — At least 2.5 million Filipinos will receive rice and financial aid in the next two weeks, House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez announced.

His statement comes, as the Malaya Rice Project of House of Representatives and Department of Social Work and Development (DSWD) rolls out.

During a press briefing Thursday night, Romualdez said he had asked 33 House members in Metro Manila to identify 10,000 indigent residents per legislative district who will initially receive the aid.

Each recipient will get a P1,000 cash grant and 15 kilograms of rice.

The program targets to help 2.5 million Filipinos in over 250 legislative districts in the country.

“We would like to have this done and replicated in other urban areas. And this will hopefully help alleviate the burden on the people and especially in the non-rice producing areas,” the Speaker said.

Romualdez added the program will not be a one-time distribution, as it will be just the first round.
