Grandson of former defense chief shot by supermarket guard

08:58 PM April 28, 2012

MANILA, Philippines—A grandson of former Defense Secretary Rafael Ileto, who served in the presidency of the late Corazon Aquino,  was shot and wounded by a supermarket security guard in an altercation in Quezon City on Friday.

Florante Ileto, 28, was still confined as of Saturday at Cardinal Santos Hospital for wounds in the left arm and palm.

Police said he was shot by Jomar Tamayo Jr., a guard at a supermarket on Congressional Avenue, Barangay Toro, at around 3 p.m. The two men reportedly had a heated argument after Tamayo, who was posted at the baggage counter, refused to accept Ileto’s packages for safekeeping.

The guard, who faces a charge  of frustrated homicide, is at large. Julie M. Aurelio, Philippine Daily Inquirer
