Man dead, cop arrested in QC bar brawl that ends in shooting
MANILA, Philippines — A police officer was arrested in Quezon City after shooting a man following a brawl inside a bar early Tuesday morning.
Elements of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) arrested patrolman Edwin Rivera, 26. According to authorities, Rivera and his companions were drinking at around 4:45 a.m. when a man approached the suspect.
A scuffle ensued immediately after, where Rivera managed to draw his firearm and shot the man.
The victim was pronounced dead at the Novaliches District Hospital. Rivera was disarmed and is under the police custody while the investigation is still on going.
Police Brigadier General Jose Nartatez, acting director of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), said that Rivera will be held accountable for his actions.

Article continues after this advertisement“An extensive investigation is currently being conducted to establish the facts of the case and bring justice to the victim. I will assure you that the involved policeman will be held accountable for his actions,” Nartatez said.
Nartatez also reminded NCRPO personnel to “conduct themselves properly,” and that there will be no room for excessive use of authority under him.

“May this incident serve as a warning to all NCRPO personnel to conduct themselves properly at all times, take precautions, control their actions and do not risk the safety of people around them. No excessive use of authority will be tolerated under my watch,” Nartatez added.
