MAN KILLED IN LAPU SHOOTING

A MAN was killed while a hotel utility worker was wounded in separate shooting incidents in Lapu-Lapu City.

Rowen Pino, 27, was shot dead while clinging to the back of a jeepney on M. L. Quezon Highway in barangay Pajo at 9:15 a.m. yesterday.

A friend of the victim, Fernando Angos, was held by police for questioning. Angos will be subjected to a paraffin test to determine if he had recently fired a gun.

Angos denied involvement in the shooting.

Angos said he, Pino and another friend identified as Ryan had a drinking session that ended about 5 a.m. yesterday.

Angos said they agreed to go to barangay Poblacion to continue drinking and boarded the jeepney.

Angos said they just clung at the back of a jeepney since they didn’t have money for fare.

Angos said while the jeepney was traveling, he heard a gunshot. Angos said said he didn’t see who fired the shot and he didn’t know that his friend was hit as he ran inside the jeepney to avoid the bullet.

Angos brought Pino to the Lapu-Lapu City Hospital where the victim was declared dead by attending physicians.

Angos was walking home when he was apprehended by barangay tanods.

Police said it was unusual for Angos to claim that he didn’t see who shot his friend since they were together.

About three hours later, a utility worker of Park Hill Hotel in barangay Pusok was shot and wounded by a security guard.

Eusebio Parba Jr., 24, was wounded in the left leg.

The suspect, Lybio Miano, the hotel’s security guard, fled after the shooting.

Police said Parba was talking with co-workers in the employees’ quarter when Miano arrived.

Police said Miano shouted at Miano to settle their conflict, drew a gun and shot Parba./CORRESPONDENT NORMAN V. MENDOZA
