MANILA, Philippines — Tropical Storm Jenny (international name: Koinu) has decelerated, the state weather bureau said on Saturday afternoon.
According to the 5:00 p.m. weather bulletin of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), the center of the tropical storm was located 995 km east of Central Luzon.
It was seen moving northwestward at 10 kilometers per hour (kph) and had maximum sustained winds of 65 kph near the center and gusts of up to 80 kph.
No tropical cyclone wind signals have been raised, but Pagasa said that it may do so on Sunday or Monday over areas of Northern Luzon.
Pagasa said that Jenny still has no direct effect on the country, but it will enhance the southwest monsoon on Sunday, which will bring rains over areas in Palawan, Romblon, most of Visayas, and Dinagat Islands.
The agency also added earlier that the tropical storm may make landfall over the Extreme Northern Luzon or northeastern mainland Cagayan.
Meanwhile, it is expected to bring rains over most of the Mimaropa region, Visayas, and the Dinagat Islands on Monday.
Heavy rainfall may also be experienced in Batanes and the Babuyan Islands by Tuesday and Wednesday, as Jenny draws near to the mentioned locations during those days.
