Earthquakes jolt Surigao del Sur, Eastern Samar early Friday morning
MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 4.9 earthquake struck Surigao del Sur early Friday morning.
Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the tremor struck at 1:06 a.m.
Its epicenter was plotted east of Cagwait, Surigao del Sur, with Intensity Two also felt in Cagwait town.
Phivolcs did not expect any damage or aftershocks.
Shortly afterward, a magnitude 4.7 earthquake rocked San Policarpio, Eastern Samar.

Article continues after this advertisementThe earthquake was tectonic in origin and had a 26-kilometer depth of focus.
Intensity One was recorded in Borongan, Eastern Samar.
No damage or aftershocks are expected from the earthquake.
Phivolcs Science Research Analyst Lara Guianan explained that instrumental intensity is the strength of the tremor as measured by an intensity meter or scale.
