MANILA, Philippines — A Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey shows 64% of Filipino households have pets at home.
As many as 67% have houseplants or gardens.
The survey covers the first quarter of 2023.
Data was gathered through face-to-face interviews from March 26 to March 29 with 1,200 Filipinos nationwide.
Based on the results, dogs and cats are the most popular household pets.
Among the surveyed pet owners, 78% have dogs, while 50% have cats.
Fur parents have an average of two cats or dogs in their households.
45% of pet owners have only dogs, 17% have only cats, and 33% have both.
The remaining five percent of respondents do not have a dog or a cat, but they have other pets.

Pet Owners
The following are the percentages of Filipino households who are raising other pets:
- Chicken or rooster – 8%
- Bird – 3%
- Fish – 3%
- Duck – 1%
- Rabbit – 1%
- Other pets – 1%
Persons raising animals to be sold for business were not included in the survey.
Plant Growers
SWS survey also shows among the Filipinos with plants at home, 77% of them are in rural areas, while 59% are in urban centers.
Plant growers are less common in Metro Manila and other densely-populated places.
SWS said 39% of households in Metro Manila have plants.
Visayas has the highest number of plant owners, with 78% of the people surveyed there having plants at home.
It is followed by places in Luzon outside of Metro Manila.
In Mindanao, 69% of the people surveyed cultivate plants.
The survey did not include persons who grow plants for business.
The data has a ±2.8% margin of error.
