Comelec seeks disqualification of 84 poll bets

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Thursday reminded candidates of the 2023 barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections (BSKE) that they do not have to pay a fee to the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) when registering as candidates.

MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) will seek to disqualify at least 84 candidates in the Oct. 30 barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections for premature campaigning.

These 84 individuals were among the 2,173 candidates who have been asked by Comelec to explain why they jumped the gun on the official campaign period, which is from Oct. 19 to Oct. 28.

The poll body will start filing formal disqualification cases on Sept. 28. A total of 1,414,487 aspirants are vying for 672,016 posts in the polls.
