MANILA, Philippines — With the 2023 barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections (BSKE) drawing near, the Philippine National Police (PNP) on Monday said that the number of suspected poll-related incidents had climbed to 44.

The figure is nine more than 35 incidents recorded in the previous week, Col. Jean Fajarno, chief of the PNP Public Information Office and spokesperson, said in a press briefing.

Six of the 44 incidents had already been confirmed as election-related, she added. Of the six incidents, four involved shooting, two abductions, and one alarm and scandal.

The 32 remaining cases were found to have no relation to the elections.
