Alleged abusers of Elvie Vergara flunk lie detector test – NBI

MANILA, Philippines — The former employers and alleged abusers of maid Elvie Vergara have failed their lie detector tests.
The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) polygraph division confirmed the results during Monday’s hearing of the Senate committee on justice and human rights, which is investigating Vergara’s alleged exploitation by Pablo and France Ruiz.
Senator Raffy Tulfo initially asked France whether she thought she passed the exam.
“Opo, pumasa po (Yes, I think I passed),” she said.
Not long after, Tulfo broke the news: “Lumilitaw dito na ikaw ay deceptive, nagsisinungaling. Bumagsak ka.”

For the result of Pablo’s lie detector test, it was Senator Jinggoy Estrada who disclosed that he also failed it.
Estrada also announced that witnesses JM Taroma and Patrick Simbaon passed the NBI’s polygraph exam.
“This just confirms [that] these witnesses JM and Patrick are telling the truth at itong mag-asawa, base sa inyong findings, ay nagsisinungaling (and this couple, based on the findings, are lying),” the senator said.
NBI officials present in the hearing explained that each individual who underwent the polygraph test had three series of exams to check the consistencies of their answers and reactions.
Before the test, vital signs were checked since heart rate, breathing, and blood pressure affect the findings of the lie detector machine.
Last week, the Ruiz couple agreed to take the polygraph test as they stood firm on their claims that they did not mistreat Vergara while she was their household helper in Occidental Mindoro.
