Pagasa: Fair weather likely in parts of Luzon and Mindanao

MANILA, Philippines — A generally fair weather condition may be expected to prevail over Metro Manila and some parts of Luzon and Mindanao on Monday, the state weather bureau said.

However,  showers or thunderstorms may also occur in these areas from afternoon to evening despite partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain.

State weather specialist Obet Badrina said Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon and Mindanao may anticipate warm weather around Monday noon.

“Itong bahagi ng ka-Maynilaan at nalalabing bahagi ng Luzon at Mindanao ay asahan natin na medyo mainit na tanghali pa rin ang mararanasan sa araw na ito, pero sa hapon hanggang gabi ay posible ‘yung mga isolated rain showers and thunderstorms,” he said.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) likewise said that the southwest monsoon, locally known as habagat, will continue to bring rains over the western sections of Southern Luzon and Visayas.

According to Badrina, “Inaasahan po natin sa araw na ito na malaki ang tyansa ng pag-ulan partikular na sa Mimaropa, kasama din ang bahagi ng Cavite, Batangas, Zambales, at Bataan.”

Cloudy skies with high chances of rain are forecast for most Visayas on Monday due to the southwest monsoon and the trough or extension of the low-pressure area (LPA) in the eastern part of the country, Pagasa also noted.

The state weather service warned of possible flash floods and landslides in low-lying areas where rains are likely.

As for the LPA located in the western part of the archipelago, Pagasa said it continues to move away from the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR). It likewise said that chances of a cyclone entering the PAR before September ends remain low.

Pagasa further said that small sea vessels are safe to sail as there are no gale warnings issued over the country’s seaboard.

But Badrina reminded sea travelers to proceed cautiously because waves may suddenly swell during thunderstorms.
