MANILA, Philippines – Metro Manila sizzled to a sweltering 36.4 degrees Celsius Friday afternoon, the new all-time high record for the capital this year, state weather forecasters said.
Gilbert Aquino, weather observer from the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), said the hot temperature was recorded at 3 p.m.
Meanwhile, as of 2 p.m., Cabanatuan experienced the warmest temperature on a nationwide scale on Friday at 37.2 Celsius.
The hottest temperature for the year was recorded on April 13 at 38.4 Celsius in Clark, Pampanga.
Aquino said warmer temperatures are usually recorded during the month of May. As La Niña finally eased out, hot weather will continue until rainy season, which will be around end of May, he said.
The highest temperature recorded in Metro Manila was on May 14,1987 at 38.5 Celsius. In the Philippines, the warmest weather was recorded at 42.2 degrees Celsius in Tuguegarao City on May 11, 1969.
