Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) chief Director Gen. Gregorio Catapang Jr. relieved Davao Prison and Penal Farm (PPF) warden Supt. Rufino Martin for his belated report about the escape of inmate Jundee Caño, 38, from the minimum security compound of Davao PPF on Sept. 13.
Caño was eventually recaptured four days later, but Martin’s report only reached Catapang on Sept. 19.
“Untoward incidents like this should be reported immediately… If there are any untoward incidents in various colonies, I don’t want to be the last to know, so this will serve as a warning to all BuCor officials,” Catapang said.
Catapang’s term has so far been rocked by controversy following the escape of inmate Michael Cataroja from the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City on July 7. —DEXTER CABALZA
