MANILA, Philippines — After signing the agreement granting them access the European Union-funded sharing platform Indo-Pacific Regional Information Sharing (IORIS), personnel from Maritime Industry Authority (Marina) and the National Coast Watch Center (NCWC) are now training for its effective use.
IORIS, is a “secure and neutral, web-based, maritime coordination and information-sharing tool” with functionalities such as satellite services capable of managing maritime incidents, its developer, the European Union Critical Maritime Routes Indian Ocean (EU CRIMARIO) described.
According to MARINA on Wednesday, the training, which bolsters maritime safety and security, runs from September 18 to 22. It is being conducted by the EU CRIMARIO in Quezon City.
“The primary objective of this comprehensive training is to equip MARINA and NCWC personnel with the necessary skills to become proficient trainers and operators of the IORIS Platform, facilitating seamless information sharing within and between agencies,” Marina stated on its official Facebook page.
Its Enforcement Service Director, Engr. Ronaldo P. Bandalaria said that the training session paerticipants will be at the forefront of implementing the project in different service units and regional offices.
Marina also mentioned that the training is in line with the Maritime Industry Development Plan 2028 — a program that seeks to modernize and develop a strong and dynamic domestic shipping fleet.
On September 5 and 7, Marina and the Philippine Coast Guard forged an agreement with CRIMARIO, allowing them to use the IORIS platform in exchange for its effective and regular utilization.
