Pagasa: ITCZ to bring rains in Mindanao

/ 07:31 AM September 19, 2023

MANILA, Philippines — The intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) continuously affects Mindanao, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) reported on Tuesday.

Based on its weather bulletin, this ITCZ will most likely bring scattered rain showers and thunderstorms in some parts of the area, particularly in the Zamboanga Peninsula, Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-tawi.

The weather bureau said that the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers and thunderstorms due to the ITCZ and localized thunderstorms.

It also noted that they are not seeing any bad weather inside the Philippine area of responsibility but will keep on monitoring due to the possibility of having a low-pressure area in the next few days.

(Currently, there is no bad weather inside the Philippine area of responsibility that might affect the country, but there is still a possibility that in the next few days, a low-pressure area will be developed, so we will continuously monitor this.)

According to Pagasa, the effects of the southwest monsoon or “habagat” in the country remain little, and areas not affected by the ITCZ have low chances of having isolated rain showers and thunderstorms.

(Since the effects of the southwest monsoon on our country remain low, we expect that the chances of rains and thunderstorms are only small, but there may still be isolated rain showers.)
