NP is nation’s oldest party

The Nacionalista Party (NP), the country’s oldest political party, was formed on April 29, 1907, when various pro-independence parties united to contest the seats in the first Philippine Assembly.

The NP has produced six Philippine presidents— Manuel Quezon, Jose Laurel, Sergio Osmeña Sr., Carlos Garcia, Ramon Magsaysay and Ferdinand Marcos.

The Liberal Party was founded on Jan. 19, 1946, by Manuel Roxas from what was once the “Liberal Wing” of the old NP.

The LP has produced four presidents—Benigno Aquino III, Roxas, Elpidio Quirino and Diosdado Macapagal. Inquirer Research
