MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 4.0 earthquake shook the municipality of Llorente, Eastern Samar at 12:12 p.m. on Sunday.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the tremor was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 25 kilometers.
Reported intensities were felt in the following areas:
- Intensity IV – Llorente, and Balangkayan, Eastern Samar
- Intensity III – City of Borongan, Hernani, Maydolong, and Gen. MacArthur, Eastern Samar; City of Tacloban, Leyte
- Intensity II – Quinapondan, Sulat, San Julian, Giporlos, Lawaan, Salcedo, and Balangiga, Eastern Samar; Palo, and Babatngon, Leyte
Meanwhile, Phivolcs said instrumental intensity I was felt in Quinapondan, Eastern Samar and Alangalang and Dulag, Leyte.

Reported intensity is the strength of the earthquake felt and reported by people, while instrumental intensity is measured by intensity meters in and around the earthquake’s epicenter.
No aftershocks were reported according to Phivolcs.
