DepEd issues list of schools that will pilot test ‘Matatag’ curriculum

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Education (DepEd) released on Sunday the official list of participating schools for the pilot implementation of the “Matatag” curriculum.

DepEd said that there are five schools each from the National Capital Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Regions 1, 2, 7, 12, and Caraga that will take part in the program, resulting in a total of 35 schools spanning seven regions.

Matatag curriculum, or the revised K to 10 program, was launched on August 10.

Under this, the lessons from Kindergarten to Grade 10 will focus on five important skills: language, reading and literacy, mathematics, makabansa, and good manners and right conduct.

The pilot run is scheduled to commence on September 25, the department added.

“We decongested the curriculum by 70 percent, which supports our focus on the essential skills of literacy and numeracy. [This will help reduce] overcrowding and [help focus] on the essential elements of learning,” said DepEd’s Bureau of Curriculum Development Director Jocelyn D.R. Andaya during the launching event.

According to DepEd, the new curriculum will be executed in stages starting in 2024 until 2028.
