LUCENA CITY — Police arrested on Thursday a farmer in Tiaong town in Quezon province on charges of illegal possession of firearms.

Colonel Ledon Monte, Quezon provincial police director, said local operatives, armed with a search warrant, swooped down at 5:55 a.m. on the house of Edwin Valencia, 44, in Barangay Behia.

Valencia yielded two caliber .45 pistols, three magazines with 10 bullets, and one carbine rifle with three magazines and 22 bullets. The firearms were all undocumented.

The police are conducting further investigation. The confiscated firearm would be subjected to ballistic and cross-matching examinations to determine if they had been used in past crimes.

“The successful operation was the result of our intense campaign against loose firearms to ensure peace and order in the coming barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections,” Monte said.

Valencia was detained in a local police jail while charges of illegal possession of firearms and ammunition under the Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunition were being prepared.
