MANILA, Philippines — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and the Philippine Reclamation Authority (PRA) have signed an agreement for the construction of the Roxas Boulevard Promenade in Pasay City.
According to the MMDA in a statement on Wednesday, the promenade is an offshoot project of the “Adopt-a-Park” which will be built to address the lack of open and green spaces in Metro Manila.
MMDA Acting Chairman Atty. Don Artes explained that the development of the Roxas Boulevard Promenade aims to promote an “active lifestyle” among locals as well as to contribute to the “overall wellness of Metro Manila.”
“The Roxas Boulevard Promenade Project is not just about creating a park; it is about creating a space where families can bond, advocate fitness, a place of recreation and leisure, and a place to breathe,” said Artes during the signing of the agreement, as well as the groundbreaking ceremony for the promenade’s construction.
“This project is the first of many projects that will represent a harmonious blend of urban development and green spaces, designed to enhance the quality of life for all residents of Metropolitan Manila,” he added.
For his part, Acting PRA General Manager Nolasco Bathan expressed gratitude for the opportunity to be part of the MMDA’s project.
The PRA is the owner of a plot of land where the MMDA will build the park.
The said promenade will be constructed along the Libertad Pumping Station to Edsa cor. Roxas Boulevard, spanning 800 linear meters in length and a width of 22 meters with an approximate development area of 17,495 square meters.
The park will have three areas: a futsal area with a mini futsal field, artificial turf, benches, bleachers, and fence; a wellness plaza with jogging paths and bike lanes, a seating area, and a solar lamp post; as well as a pet park area composed of pet furniture, security fences, and ground cover.
The MMDA said the Roxas Boulevard Promenade is one of over 30 parks being developed as part of its urban renewal project and is expected to open before Christmas this year.
Artes also stated that the agency is in talks with PRA to extend the park to Naia Road in Parañaque to develop one of the longest and biggest linear parks in NCR.
