MANILA, Philippines — A minor carrying an improvised firearm called ‘sumpak’ was apprehended in Barangay Poblacion, Muntinlupa city, Southern Police District (SPD) reported on Wednesday.
SPD said the 16-year-old suspect, identified as alias ‘Denver,’ was nabbed by the personnel of Poblacion substation on September 12.
Law enforcers first received a report about a “suspicious person wearing a gray jacket and black shorts,” who was allegedly holding an improvised firearm in their area.
According to SPD, officers have confiscated the firearm and a 12-gauge shotgun ammunition from the suspect — both do not have the necessary documents.
SPD said that Denver is now facing charges for violating Republic Act 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act) in relation to Batas Pambansa 881 or Omnibus Election Code.
The Code prohibits anyone from carrying a firearm during election season.
The minor will be brought to Department of Social Welfare and Development.
