MANILA, Philippines—In anticipation of the Labor Day’s protests next week, the Southern Police District has required its officers and members to undergo a refresher course on human rights.
The workshop is designed primarily to inculcate among members of the force respect of person’s dignity and the “do’s and don’t’s” in handling of rally participants, its spokesperson, Superintendent Jenny Tecson, said Thursday.
He said the entire police force of SPD, especially its Civil Disturbance Management (CDM) and Special Reaction Unit, will take the two-day seminar which started Thursday.
“[They will be reminded that] human rights of each Filipino should be respected at all times, and that maximum tolerance should be exercised in the pursuit of their duties and responsibilities,” Tecson said.
Tecson said although SPD will have its hand full securing various Labor Day activity venues in the district, such as job fairs, she assured that they will have enough men to respond to any untoward incident on May 1.
