Sara Duterte: Increasing access to education, gov’t services to curb terrorism
MANILA, Philippines — Vice President Sara Duterte said that government services and education must be accessible to the public to prevent the spread of terrorism.
“When communities have increased access to education, economic opportunities, healthcare services, and other government initiatives — terrorists will have lesser chances to access them,” she said during the Peace Village exhibit in Davao.
According to the Office of the Vice President’s statement on Tuesday, Duterte, who is also the concurrent Education secretary, believes that good governance is the key to peace.
“A government that genuinely serves the people will not suffer the doom of being betrayed by its people,” Duterte said.
The Vice President cited her bailiwick of Davao City as an example of how accessible government services assisted in the fight against insurgency.
“For Davao City, the successful end of our anti-insurgency campaign saw the impact of Peace 911. Insurgency-free Davao City also means Dabawenyos, especially those who are residing in Paquibato District, Marilog District, and Calinan District, are now able to sleep soundly at night,” Duterte said.
