MANILA, Philippines — A Chinese woman with fake documents was apprehended by the Bureau of Immigration (BI) at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal (Naia) 1 last September 5, a report from the bureau said on Tuesday.
BI’s Border Control and Intelligence Unit Head Dennis Alcedo said that the suspect, Zhiqun Liao, 31, female, attempted to depart for Quanzhou, China, on a Malaysian Airlines flight.
According to the report, Liao’s passport had no Philippine arrival stamp. She could not present the visa she used to enter the country.
BI extended that their system did not contain records of Liao’s supposed arrival in the country on June 15 and that the flight she allegedly took was non-existent.
The immigration bureau’s Forensic Documents Laboratory further confirmed that the document submitted by the suspect was a counterfeit.
Charges for violation of Section 45 (c) and (d) in relation to Section 37(a)9 of the Philippine Immigration Act of 1940 were filed against Zhiqun Liao for having false immigration documents and unlawfully entering the country.
She will undergo deportation proceedings and is currently in the BI’s Warden Facility in Taguig City, awaiting its resolution.
