DOTr: Bike lanes in parts of Batangas, Rizal by 2024

DOTr says cyclists and pedestrians are the highest priority among all road users

MANILA, Philippines –  The Department of Transportation (DOTr) on Monday announced that it will open bicycle/bike lanes in Lipa City, Batangas City, Antipolo City, and the municipalities of Cainta and San Mateo in Rizal.

Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista said the DOTr targets to finish the bike lanes covering 76.70 kilometers in 2024.

“Itong taong ito ay magkakaroon ng around 400 kilometers of bike lanes sa bansa,” said Bautista in a statement.

(This year, the country will have around 400 kilometers of bike lanes.)

“Next year nanghingi na kami ng additional budget para magkaroon ng additional bike lanes nationwide,” he added.

(Next year, we have requested an additional budget for bike lanes nationwide.)

The construction of bike lanes in Batangas and Rizal has an approved budget of P151.7 million under the General Appropriations Act (GAA) for Fiscal Year 2022.

The DOTr said it is set to expand the country’s protected bike lane networks to 2,400 kilometers by 2028.
