Comelec pauses operations and filing of BSKE COCs in Metro Manila amid bad weather

MANILA, Philippines — Close to 1.5 million certificates of candidacy (COCs) for the 2023 barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections have so far been filed, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said on Tuesday.

In its consolidated report of COCs received as of 8:30 a.m., the Comelec said a total of 1,414,487 aspiring candidates have filed their candidacies nationwide.

A total of 96,962 filed their COC for barangay chairman / captain, 731,682 for barangay councilman (kagawad), 92,774 for SK chairman and 493,069 for SK member.

The COC filing period  is from August 28 to September 2. However, the period was extended in some areas until September 3 and 4 due to inclement weather.

Meanwhile, from September 3 to October 18, any form of campaigning is prohibited.

The official campaign period is from October 19 to 28, while the election day is set on October 30.  (Ivana Romero, INQUIRER.net trainee)
