MANILA, Philippines — Approximately 500 liters of engine diesel oil have been spilled after a tugboat submerged within the vicinity waters of Naga Anchorage in Cebu’s Naga town over the weekend, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said on Monday.
The oil spill recovery operation is still ongoing, according to the PCG.
The PCG unit also considers the oil spill to be “minimal.”
“We are acquiring additional details regarding the ‘minimal oil spill’ that they (PCG unit) reported,” it said in a statement.
The oil spill ensued after a tugboat MTug Sugbo 2 encountered a hole on the steering portion inside the engine room causing flooding that eventually caused it to sink on Sunday.
