PNP to send demand letter to oblige dismissed cop in QC road rage return paid benefits
MANILA, Philippines — A demand letter mandating the dismissed policeman, who was caught on video cocking a gun and threatening a cyclist in Quezon City, to return his retirement benefits is already underway, according to the Philippine National Police (PNP).
PNP Retirement and Benefits Administration Service (PRBS) director Brig. Gen. Niño David Rabaya said the police force has already taken steps to recover the pension and other retirement benefits given to dismissed police officer Wilfredo Gonzales.
“As a matter of procedure, we are already preparing the demand letter for patrolman Gonzales to return the money. We confirm that we are already taking initial action to recover the payment of his pension,” Rabaya said in a press conference on Monday.
According to the PRBS director, Gonzales was entitled to receive and could get his commutation of accrued leave (CAL) benefits after he retired in 2016 and his 36-month lump sum and pension from 2016 to 2019.
“But when we received his dismissal order here in PRBS, his monthly pension, [which] is supposed to start in 2019, was not activated anymore. So basically, he is not anymore receiving pension from us,” Rabaya explained.

Rabaya said the PRBS would likewise lodge a civil action against Gonzales if the latter refused to return his retirement benefits.
