MANILA, Philippines — House Speaker Martin Romualdez said that veterans with disabilities as well as their dependents can now look forward to a more stable income with the signing of Republic Act (RA) 11958.
“This significant step ensures that disabled veterans will not only receive the recognition they deserve but also gain the financial support they need to lead fulfilling lives, free from the economic burden of their disabilities,” Romualdez said in a statement on Saturday.
RA 11958 entitled “An Act Rationalizing the Disability Pension of Veterans” was signed into law by President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on August 24, amending RA 6948, “An Act standardizing and upgrading the benefits for military veterans and their dependents” from 1990.
Under the new law, veterans with disabilities will now receive a minimum of P4,500 up to a maximum of P10,000 plus P1,000 for their spouse and each unmarried minor child monthly, depending on their disability.
Veterans who reach the age of 70 will also be considered disabled and will receive a monthly pension of P1,700, provided that they have not received prior disability pensions under the same law.
“A higher disability pension provides them with the financial means to access the necessary medical treatment, adaptive equipment, and support services to improve their quality of life,” Romualdez added
