PNP appoints PIO head Maranan as new QCPD chief
MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) confirmed Friday that its public information office chief Brig. Gen. Redrico Maranan has been appointed acting director of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD).
Maranan will be replacing former QCPD chief Brig. Gen. Nicolas Torre III, resigned last August 30 amid the backlash he faced for holding a press conference with Wilfredo Gonzales, a dismissed cop caught on video threatening and pointing a gun at a cyclist.

Maranan’s appointment came after PNP chief Gen. Benjamin Acorda Jr. accepted Torre’s courtesy resignation. The PNP-PIO chief’s designation took effect on Thursday, August 31.
Meanwhile, PNP spokesperson Col. Jean Fajardo will replace Maranan as the acting PIO chief, effective the same day.
Fajardo told INQUIRER.net that, in the meantime, she would be serving both as the police force’s PIO chief and spokesperson.
