Grim weather grounds a dozen international flights – MIAA

The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) on Wednesday announced that the wearing of face mask at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) is now optional.

MANILA, Philippines — Several international flights to and from Hong Kong and China have been canceled on Friday due to bad weather, Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) announced on Friday.

The flight cancellations come as Super Typhoon “Saola” (locally known as Goring) approaches Hong Kong and China.

Based on China’s National Meteorological Center, Saola is expected to land in Huilai county in Guangdong and Hong Kong on Friday (September 1).

The Center predicted Saola could be among the five strongest typhoons to land in Guangdong since 1949.

Saola, locally known as Goring, has caused devastation in extreme Northern Luzon.

It left the Philippine Area of Responsibility late Tuesday evening.

With these developments, MIAA canceled the following flights:

Philippine Airlines (PR)

PR 306/307 Manila – Hong Kong – Manila

PR 318/319 Manila – Hong Kong – Manila

PR 310/311 Manila – Hong Kong – Manila

PR 330/331 Manila – Xiamen – Manila

PR 356/357 Manila – Jinjiang – Manila
