MABALACAT CITY, Pampanga — Classes at all levels in public and private schools in this province were suspended on Thursday (Aug. 31) due to incessant rains.
At past 7 a.m. Gov. Dennis Pineda issued an executive order on the class suspension.
He said the class suspension was due to the inclement weather brought by the effects of the southeast monsoon enhanced by Typhoon Goring (international name Saola).
Pineda’s order came a bit late, as students, particularly those whose classes start at 7 a.m., were already in their respective schools.
A parent of a Grade 3 student in a public school in this city said several parents had asked teachers to allow their kids to study half-day.
“We’re already in the school, so we decided to stay until the end of their half-day class before going home. It would be better if the suspension was announced at 6:30 a.m. or earlier,” she said.
In nearby Angeles City, a highly urbanized locality that is politically independent of Pampanga, Mayor Carmelo Lazatin Jr. also issued an executive order suspending classes at all levels in public and private schools.
His order was announced on the city’s social media page around 6 a.m. INQ
