MANILA, Philippines — Department of Education (DepEd) reports a drop of more than five million in the number of enrollees for the school year 2023-2024 from last year.
In its Facebook page on Tuesday, DepEd said there are 22,917,725 enrollees recorded for public and private schools, state universities and colleges, as well as local universities and colleges, including Philippine schools overseas.
In the school year 2023-2024, DepEd recorded 28,035,042 enrollees.
Most of the students come from Calabarzon (Region IV-A) with 3,488,180 students.
Southern Capital region (Region III ) comes second in rank with 2,626,684 enrollees.
National Capital Region (Metro Manila) is third with 2,497,178 students.
The fewest number comes from Cordillera Administrative Region with 355,728 enrollees.
Meanwhile, there are 1,541 recorded enrollments in Philippine schools in foreign countries.
Classes in public schools opened on Tuesday, August 29.
