Flooding affects thousands of residents in Negros Occidental
BACOLOD CITY — Heavy rains in Negros Occidental and Bacolod City have caused flooding that has affected thousands of residents.
Initial reports said 772 families with 2,797 individuals in 14 barangays in Bacolod City, said Dr. Anna Maria Laarni Pornan, Bacolod City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office head.
A partial report as of 11:20 a.m. on Monday showed seven local governments have been hit by flooding in Negros Occidental affecting 3,838 residents, Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz said.
Bacolod Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran cancelled classes and work in government offices.
Negros Occidental Acting Gov. Jeffrey Ferrer also cancelled work at all provincial offices on Tuesday, Aug. 29.
