MANILA, Philippines — Quezon City government is urging the biker who got involved in a fight with a retired policeman to cooperate with authorities.
The retired cop had threatened the biker with a handgun.
Quezon City Police District (QCPD) identified the gun-toting car driver as retired cop Willy Gonzales.
He had reportedly pulled up and cocked a firearm during a traffic argument with a cyclist near Mabuhay Rotonda roundabout in Quezon City.
The video of the confrontation that happened on August 8 went viral over the weekend.
“Sinisiguro ng pamahalaang lungsod na mananagot ang naturang lalaki sa buong saklaw ng batas na kanyang posibleng nilabag,” Quezon City government said of Gonzales in a statement on Sunday.
(The local government is making it certain this man will be accountable for the laws he possibly violated.)
“Umapela rin ang lokal na pamahalaan sa lalaking siklista na humarap sa imbestigasyon, kasabay ng pagtiyak sa kanyang kaligtasan,” it added.
(The local government also appealed to the cyclist to face the investigation, while at the same time, that his safety is being assured.)
The biker now fears for his life, says his counsel Raymond Fortun.
Fortun also said the vlogger, who uploaded the video clip, had also received threats.
Gonzales surrendered to QCPD.
His permit to carry firearms has been revoked by Philippine National Police.
The local government condemned the incident.
“Walang puwang ang paggamit ng dahas sa buong lungsod ng Quezon City,” it said.
(The use of violence has no place in Quezon city.)
