DFA repatriation of OFWs from Kuwait

MANILA, Philippines — Over 700 distressed overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and their children have been repatriated from Kuwait by the Philippine government since January this year, according to the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).

The DFA said 763 workers and their children / relatives have so far been repatriated, including 108 who arrived on three flights last August 14 and 15.

“Majority of the repatriated Filipinos were undocumented workers staying at the Embassy (the Philippine Embassy in Kuwait) shelter,” the DFA said.

It added that the OFWs’ one-way tickets were shouldered by the DFA-Office of the Undersecretary for Migrant Workers Affairs’ Assistance To Nationals fund.

The repatriation of these Filipino workers was led by Philippine Ambassador Jose Cabrera III in coordination with the Migrant Workers Office in Kuwait.
