Bohol solon: Susan Ople leaves legacy devoted to OFWs

TAGBILARAN CITY — Rep. Alexie Besas-Tutor has paid tribute to Migrant Workers Secretary Susan “Toots” Ople who died Tuesday.

Ople left a legacy devoted to Overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), said Besas-Tutor, House committee chair on Civil Service and Professional Regulation and a member on House Committee on Overseas Workers Affairs.

“Secretary Ople leaves behind a lasting lifelong legacy of public service and of advocacy devoted largely to overseas workers, their families, and the issues that matter most to their lives,” Tutor said in a statement she posted on Facebook on Tuesday.

Bohol is the home province of thousands of migrant workers, especially seafarers, she said.

“As Chairperson of the House Committee on Civil Service and Professional Regulation, we appreciate Secretary Ople for advancing the interests and welfare of hundreds of thousands of nurses, doctors, engineers, teachers, and other Filipino professionals working in Europe, North America, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia,” said Besas-Tutor.

She added Ople’s work was crucial to ensuring that Filipino professionals, technicians, and household workers were accorded their rights and their credentials were recognized by employers and authorities overseas.
