MANILA, Philippines — Former TV host Jay Sonza was freed from the Quezon City Jail quarantine facility in Payatas on Tuesday after posting bail of P268,000 for libel and 11 counts of estafa.

Sonza was released at around 8:57 p.m.

Broken down, the bail was P10,000 for libel and P258,000 for the 11 counts of estafa, according to the release order from the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP).

Previously, Sonza was also charged with syndicated and large-scale illegal recruitment, which have been dismissed.

Last Aug. 15, the BJMP confirmed Sonza’s detention at the QC Jail. The BJMP said he was turned over by the National Bureau of Investigation last Aug. 3.

According to Bureau of Immigration spokesperson Dana Sandoval, Sonza was bound for Hong Kong when immigration officers intercepted him at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 last July 18.

Verification of BI personnel showed that Sonza was on the active watchlist due to a warrant of arrest for 11 counts of estafa.
