With more than a week to go before the opening of classes, around 16.8 million students have already enrolled for the school year 2023 to 2024, based on the latest data of the Department of Education (DepEd).
As of Monday morning, the total number of enrollees represented more than half or 58.3 percent of the DepEd’s projected enrollment of 28.8 million learners for this year.
According to the DepEd’s Learner Information System quick count, Calabarzon registered the most number of students, reaching 2,858,606, followed by the National Capital Region (2,220,470) and Central Luzon (1,868,161).
The opening of classes is scheduled on Aug. 29 and the enrollment period will run until Aug. 26.
The DepEd noted that students under the Alternative Learning System may also enlist in their respective barangays, community learning centers or the nearest public school in their area.
In the previous school year, around 28.4 million students registered in 44,391 public schools and 12,162 private schools nationwide. INQ
