1 NPA rebel killed in Surigao del Sur clash

MANILA, Philippines—One New People’s Army rebel was killed in a 10-minute encounter with government troops in Surigao del Sur Tuesday morning, a military spokesman said.

Major Eugenio Osias of the 4th Infantry Division said 12 soldiers from the 4th Infantry Division on combat operations encountered about four communist rebels in Bagyang village, San Miguel town at 11:45 a.m.

Also recovered from the rebels were one AK47 rifle, two magazines, four AK47 with ammunition, he said.
No one was hurt among the soldiers, said Osias.
