MANILA, Philippines — Three individuals were rescued by Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) after their speed boat caught fire in the waters off Zamboanga City.
In an incident report on Friday, PCG said speed boat ‘Fadi Laminusa Express’ departed from Marias, Baliwasan Seaside, Zamboanga City.
The passengers were subjecting the boat to a sea trial when the fire ignited from the fuel tank and battery at around 2 p.m. on Thursday.
A sea trial is the testing phase of a watercraft.
PCG dispatched a team to rescue the crew of the speed boat and to put out the blaze.
The fire was extinguished at around 3:30 p.m.
According to PCG, the speed boat sank 300 meters south of Barangay Mariki, Zamboanga city.
PCG’s Coast Guard Medical Clinic-Southwestern Mindanao, provided the rescued persons with immediate medical care.
They sustained injuries, particularly first-degree burns.
