Work, school suspended for FIBA World Cup

/ 05:10 AM August 17, 2023

President Marcos has suspended government work and all classes in public schools at all levels in Metro Manila and Bulacan for the opening ceremonies of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 at the Philippine Arena in Bocaue, Bulacan, on Aug. 25.

The President said in Memorandum Circular No. 27, signed on Aug. 15, that private companies and schools would be left to decide whether to suspend work and classes.

The President earlier said he was present when his father, former President Ferdinand E. Marcos, did the ceremonial ball toss at the FIBA World Cup (then known as the FIBA World Championship) in Manila in 1978.

He said he was pleased to be able to do the same during his own presidency. —NESTOR CORRALES
