Suspended BuCor official quits, but probe continues

Suspended Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) official Angelina Bautista has resigned but the investigation of her alleged involvement in irregular deals continues.

BuCor chief Director General Gregorio Pio Catapang Jr. on Tuesday said his office has accepted Bautista’s irrevocable resignation, which took effect on Aug. 11.

Bautista, an executive assistant IV at the Office of the Director General, said she was “no longer comfortable working due to the controversies and baseless accusations hurled against BuCor, much more against her.”

“My resignation does not mean that I am admitting the malicious and unfounded issues incriminating my untainted years of public service. I wanted peace, not only for my family but for the entire Bureau of Corrections. I wanted to leave proud, untainted and uncorrupted, regardless of how people might perceive it,” read Bautista’s letter of resignation.

Bautista was linked to an alleged construction business inside BuCor, an accusation she has denied. She was also accused of owning the catering service that won a P21-million contract to provide food for inmates.
